Lofted Forest Home by Rover Harvey Oshatz

“The Lofted Forest Home is one that defies categorization. It cannot be called strictly modern, traditional, or naturalistic. Rover Harvey Oshatz did not have a particular style in mind when he designed the home, but instead focused on a source of inspiration from the owner. According to the architect, it is a physical manifestation of the “fluidity and complexity of music.” The house certainly embodies both principles, with elegantly flowing curves executed with custom structural and decorative elements. Primarily wood and stone were used in the home’s construction to promote integration into its environment. Even where metal was used, it was allowed to weather naturally, developing a rust colored patina. Most of the living space is located in the flared, upper “loft” portion of the home, where Oshatz hoped to achieve a sense of intimacy in the forest canopy.”

The Buried Life

“Four buddies set off across the country in an R.V., video camera in tow, to knock items off their “100 things to do before I die” list: kiss the Stanley Cup, get a tattoo, grow a mustache.”

“With plenty of high jinks and adolescent humor, “The Buried Life” seems like the perfect MTV reality show, except for one unexpected twist. At each stop the group helps deserving locals with their own wishes. In Idaho, for example, they took eight children with brain cancer on a shopping spree at Toys “R” Us.”

Vienna Way Residence by Marmol Radziner

“The Vienna Way Residence in Venice, CA on the other hand is a fully custom home designed for Radziner’s own family. Located on a narrow and heavily vegetated lot, the house’s plan is composed of two staggered rectangles joined in the center by a box. The box that connects the two rectangular wings is the kitchen, which acts as a centrally located core and implements a green roof planted with native grasses. The single story volume to the south contains the public oriented spaces such as the living and dining rooms.”

Is This Your Luggage?

“After an airport ‘loses’ a bag, it tries to contact the owner. If they’re unsuccessful, they hang onto it for a while and then, auction it off. The owner of the site Is This Your Luggage? attends such auctions, purchases these bags, then snaps shots of everything in the bag in the hope they may connect the missing luggage with its rightful owner.” (via Josh Spear)
